Kasner billiard: Time-dependent billiard (from negative curvatures to positive curvature) with one particle [Billard de Kasner: Billard à géométrie variable (de courbures négatives à une courbure positive) avec une particule].




This simulation looks like the evolution of the Universe near the initial singularity (the so-called Big Bang). The Universe during the Kasner epochs (an epoch is a straight line between two rebounces) is described as a ball bouncing between the walls of a billiard whose curvature is initially negative (lower left picture: the trajectory is chaotic) and becomes positive (upper right picture: the trajectory is quasi-periodical) later. The consequence is that the initial state cannot be known...
